A Message from the Deputy Headteacher
|
|
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a fantastic week this has been in Orton Wistow Primary School. We have all enjoyed a return to a few of our favourite events, and we still have the Summer fayre to look forward to later on today.
Sports Days
Both the Key Stage Two and Foundation Stage/Key Stage One sports days were very successful this week. All the children were determined to win as many points as they could for their house and they should feel proud for all the perseverance, resilience and enthusiasm they demonstrated throughout. Mr. Cowles did a brilliant job organising these mornings and the Year Six helpers today were excellent. Thank you to all the family members for supporting the children, I know for many of you this was your first OWPS sports day you have attended. It was also great to see so many of you join in for the parents’ races! We now know where our pupils get their competitiveness from!
Year Six Residential
Last week we took thirty-nine Year Six children to London for their final OWPS residential. It was a fantastic trip, and it is hard to select one single highlight, there were so many. I think for me, watching the Lion King was very special. It is a spectacle all by itself but seeing the joy on our pupils’ faces whilst watching it made it even more special. Thank you to Mrs. Simmons for organsing the trip and Miss Tansley, Ms Harries and Ms McLaughlin for taking such good care of the group.
Year Six Leavers
As well as all the exciting things that happen in this last half-term, we also have to get ready to say goodbye to another group of children. Lots of things are happening in the background (as well as the Year Six production) getting ready for the Leavers Drive-Thru event. On Monday 18th July we will have an assembly in the morning to allow the children and staff in school to say goodbye (this is not for parents) to our Year Six pupils and details about the drive-thru will be sent home before that date.
Hopefully I will see many of you at the Summer Fayre in a few hours. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

|
| 24 Jun 2022 Sophie from the Iguanas has shown her understanding of Islam by sequencing a series of photos and writing a detailed explanation of how being a Muslim makes a difference to family life. | |
|
| 24 Jun 2022 The cobras went to OBA on Wednesday afternoon to take part in a drama workshop. They all were amazing and even got to perform on the stage. | |
|
| 24 Jun 2022 In the Toucans the children, who remained in school whilst the others were on a residential, created this wonderful piece of outdoor artwork. They used wool and sticks to create their own initials, which will then go into Bookworm Wood on display. | |

Year 6 London Trip 2022
By Miss Tansley, Year 6 Class Teacher
Last week, many of Year 6 went on a two-night residential to London, where they spent time away from home, visiting many of the exceptional attractions our capital city has to offer.
The children and adults had a fantastic time, which was absolutely jam-packed and very hot! We visited London Zoo, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, The Tate Modern Gallery, walked along Southbank to The London Eye, saw The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre and finished with a visit to The Natural History Museum and Science Museum, on our final day.
Both days, we had evening meals out in restaurants and saw many other London sights, whilst we were travelling to and from our planned activities. Mrs Simmons thoroughly enjoyed sharing her knowledge of the sights via the coach microphone!
Every child who came on the trip, was an asset to OWPS, with both members of the public and our coach driver commenting on their exemplary manners and behaviour. All the adults who accompanied the children on this visit had a wonderful time too and were very proud of the children. Take a look at both @OWPStoucans and @OWPSsharks for more pictures of the super residential.

Miss Tansley's Charity Swim
Congratulations to Miss Tansley who completed her swim of 22 miles last night and therefore has now made it to France - all in aid of Diabetes UK. She celebrated with a platter of French bread, cheeses and wine!
She would like to pass on her thanks to everyone who sponsored her. If you still would like to make a sponsor donation, the collection doesn't close for another month, despite the swim finishing today, and you can do so via the link below. Thank you!
