It has been a very wintery week here at Orton Wistow Primary School. The playground has sparkled white as the temperatures have plummeted. However, the children have continued to work hard with a warm passion.
I am one of the Executive Deputy Headteachers for the OWN Trust, and I am based at Orton Wistow on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I have the pleasure of supporting all the staff here and working with your children. A lot of the children are getting to know me, and I am learning names as quickly as possible (only around 1,300 names to learn across the trust). If you see me on the playground, please say hello.
Year 5 Family Learning
With a super turn out from many family members, Year 5 Family Learning, focussing on GPS (Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling) was a big success. A busy hour started with a fun interactive game of Kahoot followed by some in-depth learning, including videos and written work on the tables. This included modal verbs and apostrophes, relative clauses and adjectives. Using a picture stimulus, the children with their families created a descriptive paragraph using the learning and knowledge from the start. Parents took home a writing check list to help support their child’s writing – what a wonderful end to the week!
Online Safety Week
Next week we will be focussing on Online Safety. How we can all be safe online. The children will be learning about how to make themselves safe when online and what to do if they are unsure about anything when they are online. With our forever changing world, especially with technological advances, this is an important topic that will give our children the life skills to be confident but safe online. Will we end the week with an assembly where the Online Safety Rangers will present some work and key messages to the whole school.
I hope you all have a great weekend.
