A Message from the Headteacher
|
|
Dear Parents and Carers,
Where have the past six weeks gone? It is hard to believe that my first half-term as Headteacher is nearly complete. Lots of parents have asked me how my new role has gone so far, and although I am currently requiring more sleep than usual, it has been a very positive and enjoyable start to the year. Thank you to everyone for supporting the school and their children with their learning and for attending the curriculum evenings, 2CanLearns, and Family Learning sessions so far this year. I have said this before, but one of the main reasons I have worked so happily at Orton Wistow for as long as I have is because of the fantastic team that works here. I'd also like to thank them all for their continued hard work and dedication over these past six weeks.
Parents Evening
We have 91% of appointments booked for our parents' evenings next week. The booking system closes tonight at 9 pm. Please log on to School Cloud to book an appointment with your child's class teacher if you haven't done so already. The Years 1-6 reports will be uploaded to the Parent Portal on Monday. The school office sent home some information about this on Monday, and you can also find more information about the Parent Portal and a link to access it on our school website: https://www.owps.org.uk/parent-portal
Sponsor Day
Each year we organise a sponsored event in school. Originally, we had scheduled this to happen on Friday 21st October, but we have decided to move this back to Wednesday 23rd November. The senior leadership team met yesterday, and we discussed the theme for this year's event and have agreed on the activities that will take place throughout the school day. Mrs. Fidgett will write to you soon with more details.
No free tickets to see the POSH this weekend, so I will have to plan something else for my Saturday afternoon! Have a great weekend everyone.

OWPS Girls' Football Team 06.10.22
By Eden in Year 6
On Thursday the 6th of October we (a group of year 5 and 6 girls) played in a girls' football tournament at the secondary school Jack Hunt.
We won all of our games and scored lots of goals. Here are some of the scores: 5-0, 5-1, 4-1, 3-1 and 2-1.
In our opinion, the match went very well, and we enjoyed it a lot. A few of the members of our team play for football clubs outside of school as well as in school. In some of our games we found it quite difficult to win, but in others we found it pretty easy. Our team is very good at passing, and we work well as a team. Here is a quote from one of our members: “I enjoyed playing against other primary schools from around the area at the event”.
This week on Friday we have another match against a different primary school, and they are going to come to our school.

Hilltop Year 5 Residential
By Lucy in Year 5
Hello. My name is Lucy. I was one of the children who went to Hilltop. Here is what happened on our amazing school trip.
Day 1
We came in like a normal school day but all the children who were going to Hilltop went into the Pandas classroom. It was crazy loud until Mrs Phillips announced that she needed to do the register. Soon, we were on the coach going to Hilltop. We arrived and started going to our rooms. We had a little bit of time in our rooms, and then we started our activities. First, we had archery. We played lots of fun archery games and I got a bullseye! All of our group got at least one arrow in the yellow section. Next, it was crates. There were 4 jobs which were climber, belayer 1, belayer 2, and builder. There were also 2 teams. The climber job looked scary, but it was actually really fun when you reached the top and got to ring the bell. We went back and had dinner after relaxing in the games' room for a while. Then, it was time to go to sleep ready for tomorrow's adventure.
Day 2
We woke up, got dressed, had some chill time in the games room and had breakfast. It was time to go on the Big Zipper. There were lots of fun jobs to try and, of course, we got to go on the massive zipline! For the first time you had to be clipped on your front but on the second time you were allowed to be clipped on your back. If you were on your back, you were allowed to do a pose like angel, butterfly or even superman! After that, we went back to the Seaview house and had lunch. Our next activity was Air jump where there were different levels you had to jump off and onto the massive bag. Once you had landed perfectly on 5, you could go onto level 7. I was one of the people who reached level 7 and there was only one person who managed level 8 as it was so high! Next, we had to go back and have dinner. We settled down, went back to our rooms, and soon we were fast asleep.
Day 3
Today was our last day at Hilltop. We went upstairs and had today's breakfast. Our last activities were tree climbing and bushcraft. We started off with tree climbing. Before we started we had to put our harnesses on, and then we started climbing. Nearly everyone got to the top! When I reached the top, he let me jump off the tree. Some people were too scared to jump off, so they just climbed back down. Bushcraft was next. We collected sticks and kindling, made a huge fire and toasted marshmallows. After bushcraft, we went back and collected our luggage ready to go. We got on the bus and said our last goodbyes to the place where all was fun, and we challenged ourselves by choice, to the place we call, Hilltop!

Year 2 Family Learning 06.10.22
By Miss Ellis, Elephants Class Teacher
On Thursday 6th October, parents and carers of the year two children joined us for a creative writing session. The lesson was based on a Pobble 365 photo. The children discussed the photo with their adult before generating brilliant expanded-noun phrases to describe the image. The children then went on to write detailed setting descriptions of the picture. The highlight of the session was the Kahoot quiz to recap adjectives and nouns! Thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us for the session.
