FOWS News 13.09.24

By Hannah Bass, Secretary of FOWS

A big welcome back from FOWS. I hope you all had a great summer.

Here are a couple of upcoming dates for your diary.

Firstly, I would like to give official notice of our AGM. It will be held at the school on Tuesday 8th October, 7pm prompt. It will be brilliant to see some new faces coming along.

Secondly, as you may have seen on the school calendar, the next FOWS Donation Day will be held on Friday 27th September. The children will be invited to wear silly, bright, patterned, or generally colourful socks to school on that day. In return, we ask that you can donate any unwanted gift items, anything that we can sell at the Elfridges Christmas Sale in December. (If you are returning last year's gift, we absolutely won't say anything!) Please bear in mind that last year we were very short on gifts suitable for men. It absolutely does not need to valuable, but it will be invaluable to us. For those new to the school, please bring your donations to our volunteers on the playground at morning drop off.

As many of you are aware, Friends of Orton Wistow School is a committee made up of parents and family members of children who attend or have attended Orton Wistow Primary School. Over the last few years, we have raised tens of thousands of pounds, all of which is returned to the school and is able to have a positive impact on the children's education, experience and wellbeing.

Going into the 24/25 school year, we are in a position where we are going to need more helpers for our team. A shortage of volunteers puts us at risk of not being able to run the events that you know and love, and therefore we will be unable to raise the money for the school to use to the benefit of our children.

We are currently running at a limited capacity, and without more willing volunteers, we will only be able to run heavily scaled back events this year including the Christmas Fair. We are not expecting to find one person to do everything, just a few people who can help share the load.

So the big question is... are you, or is someone you know, able to give us some time? Whatever you can give may still be invaluable to us. If you are interested in more information or wish to join our friendly and welcoming team, please get in touch.

Email: fows@owps.org.uk, come along to the AGM, or alternatively message us on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/Friendsofwistowschool.

Many thanks
