Year 3 Flag Fen Trip

By Mrs Ironside, Year 3 class teacher.

Year 3 visited Flag Fen Archaeology Park on Wednesday 13th November. The children were there to investigate and explore life from the Stone Age through to the Iron Age, enhancing their learning around their history topic of 'Stone Age to Iron Age'.

The children had a fantastic day and experienced lots of activities which enabled us to showcase our knowledge of life in prehistoric times. We explored replica and genuine artefacts dating to 5000BC, created clay pots as part of an experimental archaeology activity to see if children might have been involved in the making of pots or was it a skilled task only accessible to adults. We toured the whole site and finally took part in a story activity in an Iron Age roundhouse.

The children had a wonderful time, and really enjoyed the opportunity to get hands on with the artifacts and see their classroom-based learning come to life. Their analytical historical enquiry skills were really put to the test!

The staff were extremely impressed with both the behaviour and the knowledge of the children.
