This week in English, the Seals have been looking at one of ‘The Lost Words’ poems ‘Heather’. On Monday, we looked at the poem in detail then had a go at drawing what heather looked like. Here are some fantastic examples from Arimai-Mya, Migle and Autumn.
Next years Nightingales were introduced to their new History topic, the Romans during transition week. As part of this we drew some pencil sketches of a Roman soldier. Here is a selection of what they produced.
This week in the Foxes class, in English, Alissa, Charlotte and Flora have written the first draft of their odes to their favourite food. From cookies and honeycomb ice cream to sensational pizza!
In the Giraffes, children have been practising drawing eyes. Once they had practised the shape and outline, children experimented with adding colours and effects, using a variety of media, such as charcoal, watercolour, drawing pencils, felt pens and oil pastels. The ideas will be used to design an eye sculpture, to be made later this term from clay.
This week in English, we have been creating our own fantasy worlds. The Seals have written some fantastic simile sentences to describe. Here are some of the ‘WOW’ examples from Migle, McKenna, Isaac, Varshika and Esmae:
At the start of a science unit we normally start by finding out what children already know about a topic. Here’s Serena from the Nightingales showing what she knows about plants.
Foxes class have been sewing illuminated letters this week. They had to join materials using a running stitch and then embellish their work with sequins, beads and buttons. They showed a lot of resilience and perseverance throughout the day.
The Giraffes have read to the end of their class text 'Oliver and the Seawigs.' In the book, Oliver Crisp and Iris (a mermaid), are bullied by Stacey de Lacey, who is determined that Thurlstone will win the Night of the Seawigs. At the end of the story, Stacey floats away on a raft, having been defeated, with the sea monkeys clinging onto him. We have written apology notes from Stacey, asking for forgiveness from Oliver and Iris. We learnt to use a 'the more, the more' sentence and include this in our writing.
This week, the Seals took part in a workshop with Conductive Music. They combined music and science by making digital instruments and learning how conductors and insulators work to make a circuit.
In Year 3 our DT lessons have been focussed on using our textiles skills to make a pin cushion themed around the Tudor Rose. This week in our 2CanLearn session we worked with our adults to make our cushions. Here is Emily from the Nightingales one.
In the Foxes, Ellie has designed and created an Anglo-Saxon shield. She's decorated it with a dragon and added a foil centre to show the 'boss', which was the weakest point of the shield (also used to deflect blows from the enemy).
