Here at Orton Wistow Primary School, we recognise that success comes in all different shapes and sizes! We celebrate the children's achievements in school in the Achievements section of the newsletter and website.
Many of the children, however, are also achieving things outside of school. We would like to recognise these successes too.
It might be that your child has passed a music or dance exam, gained a karate belt, starred in a show, volunteered, taken part in a sporting event, or done something that they didn't think was possible!
If you would like to share your child's achievements with us so that we can celebrate their success, please complete the Celebrating Success form which can also be found below. Contributions will be considered for inclusion in upcoming editions of the newsletter.
We look forward to hearing about your children's extracurricular achievements!
This Week's Successes!
Indie took part in the 5km fun run to raise money for Sue Ryder in memory of her grandad-she did an amazing time of 31 minutes-we are really proud of her!
The children had an assembly last week telling them all about Operation Christmas Child, and they should all have brought home a leaflet.
Thank you to everyone that has already donated. Please see the attached poster below giving you an overview of the appeal and the dates items and shoe boxes need to be handed in by.
The donation boxes are in the school reception.

Children are again invited to enter the competition to design a Christmas Card for St Andrew's Church. We welcomed Rev Sarah to our assembly this morning, who has launched the competition. It's very exciting, as the winning design will be on the parish Christmas card, which is distributed to all houses in Alwalton, Orton Wistow and Orton Northgate! Children wishing to participate can collect an entry form from class teachers. Please make sure that a parent/ carer has completed the entry form, and that entries are returned by the date on the entry form.

On Thursday 10th of October, Year Three welcomed parents to their Family Learning session on GPS. All parents were given a tour of what GPS looks like at Orton Wistow and how we teach it in Year Three and across the school. We also gave parents examples of the expectations their children should already know from Foundation stage and KS1 and what their children will be learning as they move through the school in Upper Key Stage 2. We had a great turn out!

The foodbank came into the school on Thursday to collect all the food that had been donated. The weight of all the food was 212KG, which is approximately 500 meals. Thank you to everyone who donated.

The Year 2 family learning was a success! Thank you to all the adults that attended and participated in the learning. The focus of this session was on expanded noun phrases. Children and their families came up with some wonderful descriptions of a fantasy setting. We look forward to seeing you all again for our 2CanLearn.
Last week, 44 Year 5 children embarked on three days of adventurous activity at Hilltop Outdoor Centre in Norfolk. During their visit, the children were encouraged to embrace 'challenge by choice', the motto for the centre, with the hope that many of them would step slightly out of their comfort zone to undertake activities which they may find difficult. This motto links brilliantly to the Learning Tools we promote at OWPS, with many of our pupils needing to find some resilience, persevere and work as a team.
Over the time spent at the centre the children took part in: Caving, Tree Top Trail, Air Jump, Rock Climbing, Assault Course, Big Zipper and Bushcraft. We were exceptionally well looked after by the staff (both activity and catering teams) and we even managed to stay predominantly dry despite some heavy overnight showers!
It is a super residential and one I have been part of multiple times, yet once again the children amazed me with the level of support they gave each other throughout the visit. A huge thank you to Mrs Dar, Mrs Aldred and Miss Hamdouni for joining the trip too - I hope everyone is well rested since our return.
