Foundation Stage Topics
We plan to deliver the following topics over the year, although these are open to change. This is because we often find learning opportunities following children’s interests or what is happening in the wider world.
Autumn: All about me, homes, celebrations (including Nativity)
Spring: Frosty & Frozen, Happy & Healthy
Summer: Occupations, Minibeasts, Traditional tales
In the Foundation Stage we use Development Matters, further information could be found here:

Foundation Stage Children's Work

What to bring to school in Foundation Stage
Weekly Routines
We follow a staggered start into school, further information about this can be found here
In the Spring term (from January) children will take part in formal PE lessons and will need to wear their PE kit every Friday.
Once a fortnight, children will visit the Library and choose a book to take home and share.
When the children have learned sounds and tricky words to read, they will take home a reading scheme book which will be changed once it has been read at least twice. The reading record needs to be written in five times a week to detail what books have been shared at home.
Phonics
A Letters & Sounds pack is issued to all children with details of every sound taught in school. This is to be used at home to reinforce school learning. Children should be encouraged to practice a few times a week to learn sounds and tricky words to aid reading.
Communication
If you wish to speak to your child’s teacher either ask at the beginning or the end of a day to make an appointment or contact through the school office. We can also be contacted via the school email address at office@owps.org.uk.
Tapestry
Tapestry is the online learning journal we use at school to share your child’s achievements. We appreciate feedback from parents and encourage comments made following the observations we make in school. In addition to this we ask parents to include any observations of learning they notice from home.
We are looking forward to a fun year, and thank you in advance for working in partnership with us as your child starts their school journey
