Summer Term: James and the Giant Peach
This term, Key Stage 1 have been using the text 'James and the Giant Peach' to support their learning about minibeasts.
They have reserached minibeasts using non fiction books and the internet in order to create a non chronological report on insects. We have also created character descriptions about Aunt Sponge and Spiker.
In Science, we have investigated habitats by going on a minibeast hunt around school and during our school trip to Ferry Meadows, where we searched in woodland and went pond dipping.
Year 1 conducted a science experiment to see what ants favourite food is. We placed leaves, cereal, honey and an apple on a plate and left it over lunch. Our predictions were correct, ants like sweet stuff!
In Art, we used the final skyscraper scene in James and the Giant Peach as a stimulus for an Empire State Building collage. We colour mixed red, orange and white to create the perfect peach and balanced our fruity drawings on the top.
Over the next few weeks we will be designing and making a habitat box in Design Technology and using our new knowledge to create the perfect home for our new little friends!
